Sailing into the big blue
Vela Latina Canaria; a sport rooted in tradition
From April to October, the coast of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria plays host to regattas where a flotilla of small private boats race to win one of the three competitions that make up the Vela Latina Canaria (Canarian Latin Sailing) season in the capital. These days, 19 'botes' (small boats - the name used among the competitors), make up the fleet of the Federation of the Vela Latina Canaria, a traditional sport that has become one of the most defining events of the city and a beautiful spectacle for anyone with a passion for the sea.
